Our Food Safety department has 2 specific functions:
First, it is in charge of strictly monitoring the Foreign Supplier Validation Program (FSVP), created to comply with FDA requirements. (Food and Drug Administration). The purpose of this program is to guarantee the American consumer that the products we import into the United States meet the same food safety standards as those produced and distributed within the country. The above includes:
1. Periodic visits to our partner farms to verify compliance with food safety practices (Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and HACCP).
2. Strict monitoring of the validity of the Food Safety certifications granted by international certifying bodies to our allied farms (Primus GFS in farm, Primus GFS in packaging room, Primus GFS in harvest crew and/or Global GAP)
3. Periodic review of the laboratory tests requested from our allied farms, which we share with our clients upon request. The main objective of these laboratory tests is to check that the irrigation water and the handwashing water contain the permitted microbiological limits and do not contain bacteria such as Cyclospora, E. Coli, or Listeria that endanger the integrity of the product.
4. Our re-call procedure ensures that we are prepared to take action in the face of product food safety threats. Additionally, our traceability system is useful in identifying the origin and destination of the product.
Second, the department is responsible for ensuring the organic integrity of the product all through the supply chain. The foregoing is achieved with strict compliance with all the processes and procedures that we have created to maintain the Organic Handler certification and that have been endorsed by our Certifier in the United States.
